Commentary

This is the Kasakakezakura (cherry blossom tree for hanging hats). While the Buddhist priest Saigyo was staying at the "Mizukuki-no-oka" hermitage, he often visited Mandara-ji Temple to worship, and there is a cherry blossom tree on which it is said that he rested his bamboo hat on such occasions. Off to the side, one can find a midday napping rock, which is said to have been used by Saigyo for resting when he would visit to worship.
