Commentary

This is the Iroha Hall. It includes the office for the Sohonzan Zentsu-ji Head Temple, and the priests’ quarters and temple lodgings. The temple lodgings can be used by both people on the Shikoku Henro pilgrimage to 88 sacred places and the general public. Guests can relax in the Zentsu-ji Daishi-no-Satoyu Hot Springs, enjoy a meal of Shojin Ryori (vegetarian cuisine originally derived from the dietary restrictions of Buddhist monks), and do other activities while resting from their long travels. Another popular activity is a religious service in the morning including a reading of scriptures before a statue of Buddha, which is a sacred cultural experience.
