This is the Writing-brush Burial Mound. Kobo Daishi is regarded as one of three famous ancient calligraphers. This Writing-brush Burial Mound was built to praise their outstanding virtue and in memory of used writing-brushes. On January 5, a memorial service for used writing-brushes takes place every year by putting them in a bonfire and reciting a sutra in front of the monument.
