Commentary

Chisho Daishi perceived a Golden Fudo Myo-o (also known as Acala, the God of Fire) during his twelve-year ascetic practices in Mt. Hiei. The Golden Fudo Myo-o has been passed down as a Kifudo (Yellow Fudo Myo-o) at Onjo-ji Temple in Shiga prefecture; the picture of the Kifudo is designated as a national treasure. The Golden Fudo Myo-o here is said to have been drawn by an artist based on the picture of Kifudo in the same period. More than 100 statues of Fudo Myo-o enshrined in this hall were made based on the picture of the Golden Fudo Myo-o. They were consecrated (welcoming soul into a newly made statue of Buddha) for the 1100th anniversary of Chisho Daishi's death in 1989.
