Commentary

This are the Statues of Fudo Myo-o and Two Young Attendants. Fudo Myo-o (also known as Acala, the God of Fire) is the Buddha that guides all living things in Buddhism with his look of wrath. He is the incarnation of the Dainichi Nyorai Buddha (Bliss Body of the historical Gautama Buddha), which is the center of Esoteric Buddhist teachings. In his left hand he holds a rope to catch living creatures that have gone astray, and in his right hand he holds a treasured sword to cut away worldly desires and suffering. The flames on his back signify the burning away of sins. Accompanying him on the right is the boy attendant Kongara Doji, and on the left is Seitaka Doji.
