Commentary

This is a Chichibu 34 Avalokitesvara Sanctuary (copy of sacred site). The Chichibu 34 Avalokitesvara Sanctuary is the site of the pilgrimage of the Avalokitesvara Sanctuary in the Chichibu Basin, Saitama Prefecture. It is said to have been opened in 1234 (the first year of Bunyaku). In the 16th Century, in order to form the Japan 100 Kannon (Avalokitesvara) Pilgrimage with Saigoku 33 Avalokitesvara Sanctuary and Bando 33 Avalokitesvara Sanctuary, the number of temples of Chichibu Sanctuary became 34 in total. From the mid-Edo period onwards, copies of sacred sites were built all over Japan, and this was built as a part of the1200th anniversary projects of the foundation of Zentsu-ji Temple in 2006.
